Boxreload finds opportunities where a container with import cargo that is being delivered by one trucking company can be re-used ('reload') for the collection of an export cargo that is booked with another trucking company. Typically, this would be two different trucking companies with two trucks and two containers, each trip involving moving an empty container to/from a congested port area.
The idea is to use only one truck, one driver, one truck chassis and one container and therefore make ‘reload’ savings by driving fewer km’s with empty containers, improving truck and driver utilisation, no empty lift required at an inland depot or port.

Boxreload has been developed by the PARIS Optimal Transport Planning division of Hutchison Ports with the support of Erasmus University of Rotterdam.
By combining the research skills of Erasmus with the transport planning and optimisation experience of the PARIS division, Boxreload has the potential to realise significant economic and environmental savings in container transport.

Members of Boxreload that are not your partners will not see any of your transports. Sensitive customer information is never displayed in Boxreload.

Boxreload works in combination with hauliers existing order and planning system (TMS). The secure structure ensures that each trucking company’s sensitive customer information is kept private.
A reload can be selected by using the web interface, this will trigger a notification to the other partner that you would like them to consider a reload. Each reload performed in Boxreload directly reduces road congestion by avoiding returning trucks with empty containers back to port areas.
Each reload saves on average 140 empty kilometres. This is equivalent to a reduction of 130kg of CO2 emissions.
With an expectation that in the first year of Boxreload being used there will be 5200 reloads performed, this is equivalent to 676,000 kg CO2.
